If You Let it Become Your Master

You have to work on the personal wounds behind your personal anger to free the fierce compassion energy and the clarity that anger can give you access to, but can dominate and destroy if you let it become your master. ~ Andrew Harvey

I’m listening to an interview from a few years ago with one of my beloved teachers – mystic and Sacred Activist Andrew Harvey. As he makes the statement above, I feel a tingle of understanding in myself. There are moments when what we naturally ‘know’ in our consciousness is put into words, into something clear and tangible – that AHA moment. As I heard Andrew talk about his own challenge with anger, with letting go of his own personal attachments and justifications around his anger, I related this to my own experience with my sexuality – a vital part of who I am, as his anger is a vital part of his work and who Andrew is.

I believe that what we are here for is unique to each of us individually, and on a grander scale is really about raising the vibration of this planet into one that is pure, cosmic love. We each have our own individual ‘brand’ of what that love feels like, breathes and pulses as within our bodies, within our own consciousness. Our life experiences funnel into that connection, often creating the very rupture that will bring us back to ourselves. For me, there is a trail of interactions, programming, upbringing, self beliefs in which my sexuality, my naturally sensual feminine nature and way of being were simply NOT acceptable. And yet, they were in a state of continual arousal – because who we ARE doesn’t simply go away by being told to do so. It’s innately part of our energetic makeup. For me – sensuality, the erotic nature of the Sacred Feminine are a very significant part of who I am. I cannot simply ‘shut it off,’ although for several years I tried. Who we are will always come back to find us.

shadows in the morning sunThere were personal wounds that required attention. Rather than turn away from those parts of myself, what was most needed was for me to sink INTO them. Not into the pain per se, yet it’s absolutely necessary to FEEL the sensations of that heartache and pain. But to sink into what I had set aside as something ‘wrong’ in me, that part of myself I couldn’t understand.

Until I was able to embrace that part of myself, to give her room to breathe, to allow her to come out and explore who she really is and how her sensual nature would engage this world if given the opportunity – she stayed in the shadows, behind my line of sight. And as long as that was true, the ‘fierce compassion and clarity’ of my true nature were shrouded in the darkness too. We MUST release our wounds, including the lies, the ‘propaganda’ we have come to believe about ourselves, in order to unleash our pure essence. Until I did that, the blinded version of my sensual nature served as master. Unconsciously, of course–that’s the whole point. When we keep who we are in the unconscious state of our awareness, we essentially operate from a place of ignorance about ourselves. I had no idea what to do with this part of myself. And yet, it continued to pulse within me and always made an appearance as simply being about SEX – when that’s not the essence of my sacred sensuality at all. In truth, me falling deeper into my self, loving all of who I am rather than cutting some parts out or making them ‘wrong’ has brought me full circle into being my own master. I serve the beauty of who I am, the Sacred Feminine essence and presence that is me; rather than remain held captive to what I have hidden away out of shame or fear. In truth, in our authentic expression, without judgment, without there being a ‘right’ or a ‘wrong’ – what do we have to fear about being all of who we are? This, my friends, this fear, this judgment, if you hold onto it, will become your master and will prevent you from the rawness of true intimacy with yourself and others with whom you desire it. Time to drop the shame.

Undoing ‘Good’

The first line of Mary Oliver’s poem, Wild Geese, playing with my thoughts, my heart, my emotions this morning–and quite suddenly.

‘YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE GOOD’

It’s one of my most favorite lines of poetry, seared into my consciousness during an intensive with my beloved teacher Andrew Harvey. I loved it as soon as I heard it–felt something release inside myself, liberated.

Raw, random, personal thoughts fill the space in this post….followed by a pause, feeling, listening, tuning in. What does that mean: ‘You do not have to be good’ ?

It seems to be a statement to define the unraveling of who we ‘thought’ we were–who I thought I was.

Every time it comes around again, it feels as though there is a clear shift occurring in my belief system, very visible, very palpably felt. While I’m not yet ready to share the details of this transition, I’m soothed by Mary Oliver’s statement to us all: You do not have to be good.

Funny how it is, though isn’t it–‘good’–a goal we can chase all our lives and never quite reach it.

Because it’s a fallacy, an illusion that we have taken on and decided holds our truth.

Then just as we release one layer of that illusion, another reveals itself–opening the cracks that lead to healing, surrender….wholeness.

And so it goes….the spiral, the cycle of this journey. Letting go….of ‘being good.’

Instead….just BEing. Allowing.

Thank you, Mary Oliver for sharing such richness and Universal truth.

My statement to myself this day: I do not have to be good.

I have only to be ME. And THAT is enough.

Animating ‘Living in the Moment’

It’s so easy to say, to use as a mantra, to teach others.  ‘Stay present in THIS moment.’  Eckhart Tolle has devoted an entire book to it, as have many other spiritual teachers.  We’ve talked about it here in the Spirit Journal.  In order to connect to our greatest potential as humans and spirit beings, it’s essential to remain present, to allow ourselves to be open to all that exists in THIS moment.

This basic, but potent spiritual practice has more and more found a rhythm in my life.  I’ve shared with many of you in various ways the message one of our ministers taught one Sunday nearly 20 years ago: ‘wait to worry.’  Ok, so something is weighing on you, it could be a disaster, painful, expensive, unnerving, etc.  Set aside a time on your calendar in the future just for the worry.  Chances are, the anxiety you’re feeling now will be gone by then.  And it’s the anxiety, stress and worry that remove us from our purest selves…and the potential each moment offers to us to live authentically.

As my ‘work’ has been in transformation of late, remembering to be patient, nurture an open heart and allow whatever the Universe sends my way have all been engaged in a sacred dance within my being.  So many of us feel vulnerable to ‘put ourselves out there,’ to let down the walls and be fully seen for all of who we are.

In collaborating with scholar, mystic and author of the The Hope Andrew Harvey and the Whispering Energy community, we are focused on heart-centered networking.  This means connecting through the heart, the whispers, the purity of your very presence.  It also means choosing to be open, seen, heard.  Malathy Drew teaches that as you move forward in this work, you will naturally confront your fears and anxieties.  It’s what we choose to do with them that counts.

I’ve seen mine, and have chosen to ‘wait to worry’ about what could potentially be uncomfortable.  In doing so, I sat down last week with Tina van Leuven of Inner Delight to talk about my work, intentions and writing.  Had I put too much thought into it, it would have certainly created an unraveling in my soul, a haunting in my spirit and an absolute panic over my entire being.  Instead, what transpired was a lovely, pure and heartfelt conversation flowing directly from the truth of my soul.  I chose to ‘live in the moment’–to be at one with all that was present in that space for me, for Tina and for all who view the message and connect to their own heart whispers and inner potential.

And so my friends, from someone who has the propensity to be very self-critical and whose journey has been all about allowing her voice to be heard–out loud–I promise you it was so much easier than my mind could have anticipated.  We are our own worst enemy.  And our monkey mind creates turmoil that would else be nonexistent.  I see so very clearly how much personal power was claimed for my spirit through this process.  A tremendous shift has occurred, and I feel more deeply connected to the Divine AND to my Divine self.  This then becomes a ripple effect, extending outward into the world, in ways of which we can’t even be aware.

This video shares a bit about heart whispers and how we connect to their presence and gifts.  It also signifies an opening….letting ourselves be seen and heard…..connecting authentically to our divinity and sacred presence…..all through listening….to the whispers of our hearts….

Much love.

Network of Grace

It’s been a bit since I’ve sat in this place with each of you…reflecting on the energy flowing in and out of our lives.  And it seems as though there is a tremendous influx of action and movement toward change.  The kind of change that makes a difference, in the greatest and even the smallest of ways.  Smiling at a stranger in the grocery store–just because you want to.  Hugging your loved one, speaking a kind word, committing to a cause, picking up that piece of litter on your path, petting your cat or dog with admiration for the amazing creature they are.  All of these have the potential to be infused with Divine love.  Each one carries the power to transform the energy of the moment and move you into a space of grace.

For years, I’ve wanted to be connected in a very real way to networks of grace, in which a conscious mode of living is priority number one.  As I’ve mentioned before, I’m truly in awe of the energetic unity shared through the social outlet of Facebook.  And yet, this is the very place in which it is possible for ALL of us to align with a force so much greater than we could imagine.  Not the “only” place, for certain.  But in my own journey of late, it has become a very significant hub of connection….to Networks of Grace present and rapidly growing and expanding around the globe.  It’s there my beloved teacher Andrew Harvey is making a difference through the message of his book The Hope and his creation of the Sacred Activist.  Through this movement, we are living our truth through the passions of our heart–and THAT is the stimulus to the action we take.

It is through heart-centered living and interacting with our world that we BECOME the CHANGE.  For if you are here reading this, you certainly desire to BE it.  You are seeking consciousness, fine-tuning your relationship to the Divine and willing to put your beliefs into practice.  This is it my friends–this is it!  Living and BEING in the field of grace.  And we become channels of the Divine when we allow that grace to flow from us…like a brilliant spotlight shining outward from the heart chakra.  WE are the channel of Divine love and healing.

I encourage you, however you feel guided from your own spirit, to allow your passion to lead you.  Let it spill forth from your being in whatever way it desires.  For it lives in our very soul…and is the voice of our deepest longings.  Take this moment, tune in and listen….for you will find the spark of it in the whispers of your heart….

In Awe

Together with my dear friend Shelly Wilson, we’re holding an event filled with Divine love in our virtual community today.  It began last night and continues on into the evening tonight.  What amazes me beyond anything in that space, in the space of my own interior self, are the vibrations of grace, love and healing felt across continents and around the globe by the people who come together there to share and be as One.

In the summer of 2006, I was blessed and honored to be part of a group attending the Chartres Mystery School in Chartres, France.  As we prepared for our week of “classes,” we joined together in spirit each Sunday a month previous and shared in a meditation.  One in particular resonated with my spirit and has stayed with me ever since.  Close your eyes and visualize our Earth with points of light all around her wondrous lands.  Imagine the people, creatures and all of life living within and around each point of light.  Now see and feel a web of connection, joining each point of light, “connecting the dots” so to speak.  Throughout those silken strands, send the vibrations of love, healing and grace to all who surround that beacon of light.  In doing so, the energy reaches all around the globe, igniting a Divine love for all.

THAT my friends, is the energy emanating from our community in present time.  I believe it’s always there, but with this focused intention intensifying its power, the effect is felt one-hundred-fold.  We are so blessed, and we are feeling the healing power and burning heat of grace in our souls.  Together we are creating points of light, a community of sacred activists around the globe.  It’s inspiring, uplifting and deeply alchemical all at once.  WE are the change the planet seeks and desires.  Not because of WHO we are, but because of the energy we have tuned into and allowed to flow into, through and then reflect back out of our souls.

This is an amazing time to be alive!  We are given the gift of connecting across worlds, races, cultures, continents without ever leaving the comfort of our home.  WE are the change my friends.  The march is on, the time is now, the course is shifting.  And how will you know what your call to action is?  What allows you to hear the voice of your own soul in this movement toward healing, wholeness and Divine being?  You know it’s true, of course…..just listen now and you’ll hear it….for it comes to you direct….from the whispers of your heart….
